The End Is Near!

It is finally the end of the year and it is always good to reflect on what you have accomplished throughout the year. I am always looking to improve my teaching too, so I would also appreciate your comments on what we did in class this year to help prepare you for the years to come. Please take some time to answer the following questions honestly.

1) What was your favorite part of Composition this year?
2) Which writing piece are you most proud of?
3) What was your least favorite part of Composition this year?
4) How has your writing improved throughout the year, specifically?
5) What is one thing you would (realistically) recommend I change for next year?

  1. My favorite part has either been writing the books for little kids or the wednesday reading times. I am most proud of my transcendentalism paper or even my first writers workshop piece. I disliked the research paper. I would like to think that my vocabulary has improved. I would have liked to been able to chose my own seat, other than that I haven't the faintest idea as to what could be changed.

  2. 1. My favorite part about comp was when we did writers workshop.
    2. I am most proud of my story Big Ol Girl
    3. Writing my research paper.
    4. My writing has improved probably from a 6th grade level to maybe a 9 in a half grade level. specifically my ability to write a real essay.
    5. I dont think you should change anything but if you change anything make it so there are more writers workshop even though maybe other kids dont enjoy it as much as I do.

    2) Research Essay
    3) Packets
    4) I know what words not to use, and how to stay on topic with an outline.
    5) The amount of packets.

  4. 1. when we got to watch the Pay it Forward movie.
    2. the one that i am most proud of would be my Finding Forester essay.
    3. the big essay that we had to do for comp and us history.
    4. i think that it has improved, it is better than last year.
    5. maybe we could start our big paper earlier in the year instead of later.

  5. 1. My favorite part of Composition was the days we read. I like to read and when I have a good book I really want to read it because a lot of the time I don't have time to sit down and read.
    2. I am most proud of my transcendentalism paper because I feel I put a lot of work into it and made sure it was as good as it was going to get.
    3. My least favorite part was for sure the weeks we had to work on the research paper.
    4. I used better grammar and didn't use small words such as "had." Also, I was better organized.
    5. Nothing. You can't exactly change the research paper so everything was good. It was nicely organized throughout the year and wasn't too difficult.

  6. My favorite part this year was watching the movie Finding Forrester. The piece of writing that made me the proudest was the research paper. All the work paid off. My least favorite part this year was writing so many essays.
My writings improved by me being more fluent, I don't ramble, facts, and got better grades through out the year. I would recommend not changing much it was a great year.

  7. 1.) My favorite part about Composition this year was Reading Response day. Its hard to find time to sit down and read, and having Wednesdays to do that was nice.
2.) The research paper we wrote this spring was my best work.
3.) My least favorite part about Composition was when we worked in groups to "teach" nouns, adjectives, and other parts of speech.
4.) I think my writing has matured throughout this year. I use more word variety this year than I have in the past.
5.) I would allow more writer's workshop days.

    1. My favorite part of Composition this year were the writer's workshop days.

    2. I am the most proud of my Transcendentalism paper. I felt like it was the best paper I have written for a long time, and that it was an important step in transitioning to college writing.

    3. The excessive amount of time we had to write our papers. It seemed like we were always given too much time to write, which resulted in having a lot of time with very little to work on.

    4. My writing has improved by becoming less wordy. I have figured out how to be more economical with my words in my writings. I also am using more powerful words, instead of the really weak ones like really and weak.

    5. Instead of having so many reading response days, I would change more of the to writer's workshop days. I think the writing days are a lot more interesting than the reading days.

My favorite part of composition was watching Finding Forrester and Pay It Forward.
I am most proud of my research paper because I worked really hard on it.
Working on the nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, etc.
I improved on making everything more grown up. I dont start essays are end them so easy like I used to.
I think composition was perfect the way it was. We worked hard and learned a lot and had fun doing it at times and watched two really good movies on important lessons to learn.

My favorite part of the class was the reading response blogs it was a change from our regular classes.
I am most proud of my Research paper I worked really hard on it and it was a major accomplishment for this year.
My least favorite thing was the transcendentalism paper because I still don’t understand it.
My writing has improved a lot, I don t use you and that then and huge like I used to and I feel I m better prepared to take a college composition class.
I would change the way the transcendentalism paper is wrote to this day I still don’t understand what it means and I thought it was hard to draw comparisons between a song and a movement.

    1) My favorite part of this year was probably the writer's workshop, like reading Alex's stories.
    2) I am most proud of my children's picture book that me and Austen wrote. We worked hard on it, and we got lots of positive feedback from the little kids, which was encouraging.
    3) My least favorite part of composition was definitely, 100%, writing the big boring essay. It may have been more fun if my topic was better, but it still majorly sucked.
    4) I think my writing has improved a lot this year. I haven't rambled on as much, and i've been better about not using so many commas. Mr. Bonte always yelled at me for that.
    5) Nothing. I would say you should take out the research paper, but it will be funny to watch the juniors suffer from having to write it.
I am sad that you will be leaving next year, i hope you have fun at South Winn.

  12. The most fun was when we were watching the Pay It Forward movie. My we had to write a story and it was called the hunt. When we had to type the research paper. How to write a story better and how to give it details. I would work harder on homework and get ready to go to college.

  13. My favorit part about composition was watching the movie Pay It Forward and Finding Forester. It was fun because I would have never herd or scene any of these movies. That was probably my favorit part of the year was watching the movies. My least favorit part of the year was when we had to write are big paper what ever topic we chose to write on. That was one thing that i didn't like about the class was writing are big paper. I really don't have any recommendation on changing anything. This was a good class and I enjoyed it very much !!!!!

  14. 1) This class actually being fun. We did a variety of great projects and whole class things. It was fun to be able to come to class and not sit there and listen to a teacher preach to us on a topic. Really nice!
    2) I am proud of my research paper I did put a lot of work into it and the changes and detail was good.
    3) Grammer project probably my worst subject besides math. I am not good at writing but im improving.
    4) My writing has improved by me actually setting a side time to go through it make changes and rework what needs to be fixed. I also selected people who would actually read through it and fix my rough draft like it needed to be. Then putting the information in outlines and webs to put thoughts and ideas in order and classify them in the order they happen, then add them into the paper.

  15. Favorite part of comp this year was writers workshop.
My story about survival on a deserted island.
    Research paper.
I understand how to write a complete essay now and am now able to write a 2 page paper in an hour or less.
Not have the class teach one another because we all had to have you reteach our lessons because we all got confused.

    ReplyDelete
  16. My favorite part of Composition this year was writing a letter to myself. It was fun to try to give myself advice. I am the most proud of my Edmund Fitzgerald research paper. I enjoyed writing it and tried to add transitions and connect several ideas from different sources. My least favorite part of Composition was evaluating a historical song. My writing has become more fluid and descriptive. Before, my writing was unorganized and choppy, but now it seems to have smoother transitions from one idea to the next. I would recommend you take longer to explain the historical song essay. I was confused and didn’t quite understand until the second time you explained it.

  17. 1)My Favorite part was turning in the big research paper and watching the movie Pay It Forward. I also enjoy writing and reading classmates writing workshop pieces.
2)I feel like my research paper was a big accomplishment and I received a good grade on it so that was my writing piece that i'm post proud of.
3)My least favorite part was the grammer unit when the students taught us the lessons.
4)My writing has improved with more detail, less wordy, and making it flow.
5)I think it would be better if you taught the grammer unit instead of the students.

  18. 1) My favorite part of Composition this year was Reading Response days. I don’t have a lot of free time to read, but I enjoy reading, so it was very nice to get the time to read for fun.
    2) I most proud of my research paper. I am proud of this writing piece because it took the longest and I didn’t think it was ever going to come together. The final project was much better knowing how hard I had worked.
    3) My least favorite part of Composition this year was the grammar unit. I struggle with grammar to begin with and it was difficult to learn from my peers who at times didn’t understand it themselves. I also had trouble being the teacher because I thought since I understood it easily, everyone else did too.
    4) Throughout the year my writing has improved by becoming less cluttered. I have been able to use a smaller amount of more meaningful words, than loads of flat, boring words.
    5) I would recommend making the students write different kinds of papers. I thought we did a lot of the same kind of writing, where next year you could possibly work more on narratives and persuasive essays along with compare/contrast and expository essays.

    1) My favorite part of composition was the reading response days because I don't usually have time to read during the day.
    2) I am most proud of my research paper because I spent a lot of time and effort on it.
    4) I have learned to write simply with larger, more meaningful, words this year. I have improved my essay style by knowing how to write a to-the-point intro and conclusion.
    5) I would have more creative writing days because sometimes the same old essay style can get tiring. Creative writing would allow us to break away from the normal for a little while.

    5. More reading days, sometimes it was nice just to sit and chill with our book.

    1) My favorite part of composition was writer's workshop. I love being able to write whatever pops into my head, and I like reading what pops into other people's heads as well. I also like getting feedback from everyone.
    2) I am most proud of my research paper because I definitely put the most thought and effort into it.
    3) My least favorite part was the research paper. It took the most work and left me quite bored at times, regardless of the topic.
    4) My writing has improved most in the area of wordiness. I feel like I have a better handle on how to cut down to what is necessary, and leave out the unnecessary.
    5) I would recommend fewer packets like the ones we did at the beginning of the year, and more writing. I enjoy writing immensely, and even though others might not agree, I would like to write more. I also like having the option of choosing what to write about, so possibly more of that.

  26. 1. My favorite part in composition was the reading days. I enjoy just being able to free read. I don’t always make time to do so otherwise.
    2. I am most proud of my writer’s workshop piece. I think I do my best writing when I can be creative and use my imagination.
    3. My least favorite part of composition was the lessons in the packets. I didn’t gain a lot from them and the essays we had to do at the end of the packet were tough because we didn’t have a lot of information.
    4. I specifically improved my writing during the research paper. In the paper I had to really focus on putting things into my own words, but still with enough meaning and information.
    5. I think more group work would be good to enforce. You can always improve people skills and team work.

    4. In the beginning of the year I used the word huge a lot. I no know not to use words like that and use words with a more descriptive meaning.
    5. More reading days.

  28. 1- My favorite part about composition this year was having a class period once a week (Wednesday) to take time to silently read.

2- The writing piece I am extremely proud of is my research paper.

3- The writing piece I am least proud of is the Pay It Forward essay.

4- My writing has improved with grammar. I find that I am using other words rather than common and boring ones.

5- I would recommend not having the students teach the grammar lesson to the class. If the students teach it wrong or end up getting things confused then it could be confusing for the rest of the class as well.

    1) What was your favorite part of Composition this year?
My favorite part of Composition this year was watching the movie, Pay It Forward. I enjoyed the movie it's self but also being able to reflect on in in our essay.

    2) Which writing piece are you most proud of?
I am most proud of my research paper. We all put a lot of time into the writings and it feels good to be able to say I survived it!

    3) What was your least favorite part of Composition this year?
My least part of Composition this year probably was actually writing the research paper. It was long and hard but finishing it makes me feel accomplished. It also sucked because we didn't get to read on wednesdays for awhile.

    4) How has your writing improved throughout the year, specifically?
The overall professionalism of my writing has greatly improved throughout this year. I feel that I can write a serious paper without having elementary dialogue and mistakes.

    5) What is one thing you would (realistically) recommend I change for next year?
I would recommend changing some of the specific rules for the research. Specifically, the original document stuff. Sometimes it can be very difficult to not only find them but also to use them proficiently in the research paper.

  30. My favorite part of Composition this year was reading every Wednesday because I enjoy reading but don't always have the time to do it. I am most proud of my research paper, because I put so much work and time into it and got a good grade. My least favorite part of Composition this year was the grammar unit we did because I struggle with grammar sometimes. During the year, my writing has improved by using stronger word choices instead of simple, weak words. For next year, I would recommend you teach the grammar unit first so you don't have to do all the reteaching and it would be explained better that way.

  31. 1. My favorite parts of composition this year were the writers workshop days. I like to be able to write without all of the restrictions we have on other writing pieces.
    2. I am very proud of my research paper. I feel like I did a very good job on it.
    3. My least favorite part of composition was teaching the class the grammar unit. I disliked it because I like having someone who actually knows what is being taught and I felt like my teaching and other peoples teaching was not as good as a teacher could have done.
    4. I think I have been able to improve the flow of my writing. At the beginning of the year my writing was sometimes choppy and thought by thought, but I feel like I have been able to improve on that.
    5. I think the grammar unit part could be changed.

    3) My least favorite part about this year was writing the research paper.
    4) I have improved on less wordiness and organization in my writing.
    5) I would recommend assigning longer papers with more time to work rather than several short ones.

  33. 1) My favorite part of composition this year was working on our research papers because I enjoyed my topic and was into it.
    2) I most proud of my John Dillinger research paper because I put a lot of time and effort into it and felt like it was the best piece I could have possibly written.
    3) My absolute least favorite part of composition was the grammer unit where we had to teach the class about a specific part of speech. I am terrible at grammer to begin with and even worse at group speaking.
    4) I think my writing has gotten better this year because I have learned to use good describing words and avoid redundancy. I am now also aware of the correct format of a research paper for future references.
    5) Truthfully I dont think many people learned much from the grammer unit unless it was their own topic, so id recommend that you just taught it.

  34. 1) My favorite part of comp this year was watching Pay it Forward.
    2) The writing piece that I'm most proud of is the Research paper because it took forever and I got it handed in on time.
    3) My least favorite part of comp was the huge grammar unit because it's hard for me to understand and I hate anything with grammar.
    4) My writing has changed a bit I'm starting to us bigger words and not use "you" as much in my writings.
    5) If I had you change one thing it would be in the grammar unit when we had to present for a whole class period. That is hard for us to guess time and it would be easier if we only had to present for half of the class and not the whole and it would take up as much time.

  36. 1) My favorite part of composition was the writers work shop pieces, because they were fun to read, and write and allowed you to pick a less serious topic.
    2) The Transcendentalism paper, because I felt like I learned a lot about the 60's time period, and also made good comparisons to the writers of the 1800's
    3) The amount of time the research paper took. It felt like it drug on for so long.
    4) I have learned to use much better, and more powerful words. I have also gotten better at expressing all of my ideas.
    5) I would recommend that you should add more to the grammar unit, because I didn't fell that I learned as much from other peoples presentations.

    4) How has your writing improved throughout the year, specifically? 4) I have gotten better grammer and better sentence structure

  38. 1) My favorite part of Comp this year was Chapter 1 of the research paper because that was the part where I was able to develop an idea and be creative without many restrictions.
    2) I am most proud of my first writer's workshop piece because I was able to organize my story well with the time I had and turn my thoughts into a true story.
    3) My least favorite part of Comp was trying to understand the thoughts of Emerson and Thoreau. I felt as though I wanted to interpret them in my own way, and I found it challenging to understand the perspective of others.
    4) It is hard to tell how my writing has improved because it has been gradual. However, I think that my writing has become somewhat shorter and less confusing, rather than having drawn out sentences and ideas.
    5) I know I probably had a really long time to start thinking about topics for our research paper, but I waited to start thinking of mine. So I would recommend starting that process earlier or adding additional things to help come up with a topic.

  39. 1. I enjoyed doing the different packets this year. Even though sometimes they got long, I feel like they really helped me become a better writer. It's now easier for me to see things I'm doing wrong by remembering what we did in those packets.
    2. I am the most proud of my research paper because I put all of my effort into it. Because I spent so much time on it, I feel like I was really able to go through and edit it until it was exactly the way I wanted it.
    3. My least favorite part about Composition this year was doing the grammar unit. I know we need to learn about it, but I feel like it wasn't as effective with the students teaching it. It was harder to understand, and for me it just seemed to drag on.
    4. My writing has improved in a number of different ways. I've learned how to say everything I need to say without using so many words. I've also learned to use power words instead of just filler words.
    5. I liked the way Composition was taught this year, but if I had to pick something it would refer back to question 3. I liked the grammar unit, but it seemed boring with us students teaching it. I feel like things make more sense when a teacher explains them. One thing that did help me though was the games. If there was a way for the teacher to teach using the games, I feel like it would be easier to remember.

    1) My favorite part of Composition was watching Finding Forrester and Paying It Forward. I also enjoyed doing Writer's Workshop because it's fun when we can just have some time to write about anything we want.
    2) I am most proud of my research paper because it took a lot of time and effort to do.
    3) My least favorite part of Composition was presenting our grammar topic because I don't enjoy presenting.
    4) I think my writing has improved since last year. It's easier for me to find mistakes and figure out how to word things better while I'm editing to make it sound better. I've also used stronger word choices to make my writing more interesting.
    5) During the grammar unit, maybe you could include a review day at the end of all the presentations, where you give a quick recap of everything the students taught.

  41. 1.My favorite part of Composition this year was when we did writers workshop. I enjoyed it because I like to read and write so it was a pretty simple task for me.
2.I am most proud of my Transcendentalism paper, because I put a lot of time and effort into it and it all payed off.
3.My least favorite part of Composition was the Grammar unit, teaching others was a lot harder then what I thought it would be, but it was a good learning experience to have with me for when I attend college.
4.My awkward sentence writing has improved because I am learning to use bigger words and less little ones and my pieces get to the point faster instead of dangling on the smaller details.
5.I would recommend splitting up the Grammar unit because it was all to much to handle at once and it became very frustrating, very fast.

    1. My favorite part of Composition this year is reading every Wednesday because I enjoy not having to continue an essay everyday of the week.
    2. Throughout Composition I think my best piece of writing was the research paper. I feel like I was able to write enough to feel complete, I understood the process and concept of the paper, and I got a 95/100 so I was proud of myself.
    3. My least favorite part of Composition was the grammar project. When other people try to teach me something rather than the teacher, I do not fully understand.
    4. Throughout the year my writing has improved by learning strong words instead of weak descriptors. Also I think my writing has improved because I have learned to use different sentence patterns and word choice.
    5. During the grammar process, you come together after all the presentations and help further explain all the words.

    1) My favorite part of Composition this year what the reading Wednesdays and the essays we had to write, I liked how it helped widen the way we write.

    2) Through the whole year of Composition I think my best piece of writing was the research paper, when it was finished and when we had to find the information and do all the notecards and talk about each little item we had to have for research paper to know its completion. Which I think I got a good grade on.

    3) The least favorite part of Composition was the always having to type out essays about things in the Grammer packets, the doing the stories for the kids in the elementary was kind of something I wish would have been different.

4)Through this year in Composition and learning how to write properly, I think that my best strength will have been the descriptions of the the essays, having to write it out into an outline before putting it onto a hard copy and saying done. That was the hardest thing I think I learned to do! because I'm not one for outlines.

    5) I dont think you should change much, but the grammer projects do get a little wordy and long. Still keep up the great work, you're a great teacher and very good at teaching what needs to be learnt.

    1) When we had to write stories, then share them with the class.
    2) The transcendentalist paper, I felt i put 100% towards it
    3) The Semester tests, and when we did the grammer unit.
    4) Im using better vocabulary, pieces make better sense and flow smoothly, and less rambling on.
    5) Maybe more book reports, or book responses, or book talkes. Another words, expose students to new books, like you did in Pay It Forward.

    1. My favorite part about this year of the writer's workshops. I like being able to write about anything, instead of having a specific topic to write about.
    2. I am most proud of my research paper. I put a lot of time into it and I think it turned out good.
    3. My least favorite part about Comp. this year was doing all of those packets we did. I didn't think they were very exciting.
    4. Throughout the year I have learned to say more with less and only us third-person. Also, I think my sentence structure and grammar have improved considerable.
    5. If I were going to change something about Comp, I would not have so many packets to do.

    2. I am probably most proud of my research paper, because i spent so much time on it, and even though I had 2 less weeks to work on it I got it done on time.
    3. The research paper was my least favorite thing because it was so time consuming and boring.
    4. My sentence structure, spelling, typing skills, and overall writing ability has improved.
    5. Add a few more movies and don't do those annoying packets anymore.
