Planning Makes All the Difference

What can you, personally, do to make sure you meet deadlines for reading/writing assignments?
When it is your responsibility to complete work on time, what measures can you take before the due date to make sure you are on track for timely completion?
Do you set steps that you want to have achieved by a certain date?
Do you try to complete the project a day or two ahead of time to give yourself last-minute recovery time if something goes wrong?
Or, if you do procrastinate and do not currently use good time management, what can you start doing to prepare yourself better for assignments in college and the workplace?

  1. When I have a large writing/reading assignment, I set goals for myself. I treat the large project as a series of small assignments that I give myself everyday. Usually I give myself one extra day incase something goes wrong.

  2. You can start the assignment early and work on it every once and a while to help yourself get it done faster instead of starting it the day before its due.

  3. I write down the due date in my planner and try to work on the project a little each day. I also try not to put it off until the last minute and get as much within the first few days as possible. Sometimes I give myself a timeline of things that I want to get done in a certain amount of time.

  4. That if you work on it at home and go to school really in the morning to work on it the and all the study hall you have you could get it done in time. I dont set special step or anything I just try to get it done in time and turn it in

  5. To make sure I can get things turned in on time I use my free time to work on that project for a bit. I make personal deadlines to have certain parts of the project done for different times so in the end it all gets done by the time it's supposed to be done.

  6. When we started writing the Transcendentalism paper for U.S./Compostion, i wrote on the top of my paper DO NOT DO AT LAST MINUTE!!!! I don't know if i can really say it worked or not because i opened my folder 2 days before it was due, getting ready to start typing it, and saw that at the top. I laughed to myself.
I need to start setting myself goals for each day, by this time you should be here, and this day you should be there...maybe i would get a little further on my work. I don't do that right now though. If i start doing that i think i will do better with my procrastination.

I make sure that I make deadlines by keeping a calendar with all my important dates. If I have free time then I work on my assignment. It is never too early to start a project. I like to compare what I have done to how many days we have left. I need a couple days to write the assignment then a couple to revise and edit it. I usually set a goal in my head of when I should finish the assignment. I try to complete the project as soon as I get it. I hate procrastinating. It is easier to just do it and get it over with. I feel less stress that way. I think I am pretty good at managing my time now and am prepared for the future.

  8. Getting them done early and then you are able to turn them in on time. Have somebody else check or edit and revise it for you and see what they think about what you wrote, do this all ahead of time, or at home. No usually try to get it all done by the time that it is due. Sometimes but not all the time. To start doing it right when they assign the assignment, then you will be some what close to being done. For a work place i would do it the day they told me to do it and not any later so i dont get fired.

I procrastinate a lot and yes I do get my work done. But if somebody pushes me to do it, sometimes it goes in one ear and out the other. I love to write so easy essays are my favorite. If I could change one thing from being a procrastinator I would probably change the study problem. Such as, studying all week rather than before the test. Sometimes I get confused, probably like now.

  10. To make sure I meet the deadlines for assignments, I first make sure I know when the assignment is due. I plan which days I will be able to work on the assignment, and which days I can't. If I'm busy one night, I usually do double the work for the assignment on a night that I'm free.
Like I said above, I always plan which days I am going to work on the assignment. I always make sure that I stay organized so I don't get confused with all of the writing for big assignments.
I don't necessarily set steps, but I do have a time set for the last minute that I could possibly get that section of the assignment done. I know I have to get that part of the assignment done by that time or I'll get behind.
I always try to finish the project early so I have time to look over it and make sure I haven't made any errors.

  11. I could write a little at a time a few weeks before the essay is due. That way when the due date comes closer I can tweak smaller details.
I could work on it in my free time or when I have nothing to do in class when we have extra time. I could also keep myself motivated in working on the paper.
No, I do not set steps although I should so I'm not still working on it the day of.
No, I do not complete it ahead of time.
I could start getting excited to write a paper, although it may be boring. I could also push myself to make the paper better than any others I have ever written and make sure I have enough information and the right information in my essay.

  12. When an assignment is given to me and inorder for myself to make sure I'm on track for timely completion I get a good jump ahead on the assignment. This method allows me to slack off for a couple of days. I normally write myself a to-do list every night assigning what I need to do to stay ahead.

  13. I am reading Liar, Liar.

I procrastinate really badly. I usually wait to the night before a test or when something is do. Things that I think could help me is setting dates when things need to be done and not to be lazy and start caring. I think the main one that I could do is to set dates when certain parts of the assignment should be due.

  14. To meet assignment deadlines I find it easiest to simply not let myself procrastinate. I try to make a time every night after school to do all my homework and it has become a habit. For instance I do my advanced algebra assignment near 7o-clock every night. When I have a big assignment like the transcendentalism paper, I also make sure I do something with it every night to ensure that the deadline will be met.

  15. To make sure I meet reading/writing assignments I need to check to see if I have them written in my planner so I know when they are due. Also, I need to try and get them done as soon as possible and not procrastinate and forget about them. It is always my responsibility to complete work on time. To make sure I get it done on time I could break it up into pieces and finish certain parts of the assignment each day instead of having a huge overwhelming assignment. I do try to set steps I want achieved by a certain day, but I sometimes get caught up with my other homework and push it off to when I think I will have more time. I typically do try to have a project done ahead of schedule because then it allows me to make it even better by focusing on the small things verses worrying about having to complete the whole thing. When I find myself procrastinating I try to tell myself that if I simply finish it now then I don’t have to worry about it. This gives me the motivation to work on it at that moment so I can possibly have free time later.

  16. I could start doing my homework at home instead of just study hall. I could make sure my parents know how much homework I have to do that evening so that I can get my homework done before 12:00. Also I should probably start limiting how much I read so I'll actually do my homework.

  17. I'm reading Divergent by Veronica Roth. To make reading/writing deadlines I can work ahead if I know I won't be able to do it later. I can do things on time and use my time wisely to finish what is needed first and add/read extra information later. It is always my responsibility to turn my work in on time. Before the reading/writing assignment is due I can make a list of what needs to be done. Then, I can separate it out evenly over the days until the assignment is due. This way I have a timeline to see if I am on track and can work around other activities. Yes, I usually look at the calendar and my activities to set goals for myself. I usually want to have the assignment done a day in advance. Yes, I usually try to give myself some last-minute recovery time incase I have forgotten something. I try not to procrastinate, but sometimes I do. I do most of the work on the weekends that way I have more flexibility during the week. I can start trying to do more of the work during the week incase something comes up on the weekend.

  18. When making sure I meet deadlines I write them down in my planner and work the assignment a little each night. By working on the assignment a little each night that will ensure that I am that much closer to my final project. Usually I set a goal on what I would like to have done each night. Sometimes I want to complete the project ahead of time, but it doesn't always work out like that.

  19. To make sure I meet deadlines on assignments, I just tell myself the sooner I start, the sooner I finish. To be on time for completion, I like to make a plan of what I will accomplish everyday. This means that I do set steps that I want to have achieved by a certain date. I generally do get a head start on assignments. That way towards the end I can feel more relaxed and not be so worried about getting stuff done. I do use good time management.

what can I do to help me in my life. I like to set goals that I can work to and try to accomplish. One thing that help me when I am working is to have a place that is not distracting. I like to go to a place where no one is around so I can get my work done and move on to the next subject that I need to work on. The thing that helps me the most is knowing what I have planed for the day so i know what to expect. It help me to a least have a base line for my day that is what helps me the most.

  21. To meet reading/writing assignment deadlines I could buy myself a planner and write my assignments in them. I could write down the steps of my assignment to follow so that I don’t get behind. I sometimes procrastinate with homework, but they come easily to me. I can usually work quickly so writing/reading assignments don’t take as long for my to complete.

When preparing to complete a reading or writing assignment I like to schedule where I should be in the project within the given days. It helps me get an idea of where I should be at and how far or ahead I am. I also helps me stay focused and not to procrastinate. I think it would be a good idea to start planning to have the assignment done a day or two ahead of time. This would give me more time to go over the assignment and make sure I am satisfied with the work.

When I have a big assignment, it usually puts enough stress on my life that it would kill me to put it off. I don't set any sort of schedule, but I have some idea of how fast I need to move. I do as much as I can each day that my brain can handle. I tend to spend more time on my prewriting so I try not to say I have to have something done by a certain time, but a general percentage of the project done according to my speed. If it's a big project I usually take some time on the weekends to work on it so I get done a little bit early and I can make simple last minute changes that aren't at the last minute.

Dont start the night before its due. It is always my responsibility to complete my work on time. start it right away and create your own deadlines for certain parts of the work. Yes. Usually. Start being responsible and doing things on time.

  25. When reading these I couldn't identify anything I did. During the transcendentalism paper I had a majority of the work done but ran out of motivation at the end and put it off. If I had planned out steps to take and stuck to them I would have been more successful in my paper. (Not saying it wasn't already the best in the class) Trying not to procrastinate and laying out what I have to do will make my reading and writing assignments better suited for higher-level teachers.

I procrastinate and get things done at the last minute. There are things I could do to fix this problem though. I could start working on assignments earlier and get them done little by little so that the assignments don't seem like such huge tasks. I think that by breaking things down and planning them out it would motivate me to work on the project rather than put it off.

I could use my time wisely in study hall. If I work on the assignment a little each day I can ensure that the assignment is completed in a proper time fame. Currently I do not set steps fr my self but it would be a good thing for me to start. I usually complete the assignment ahead of time if it is large but if it is small I do not complete it as far ahead.

  28. To make reading/writing deadlines I like to start with an outline, I use this outline to write my rough draft. I try to space out writing these things, if I have enough time, so I can keep thinking and adding to them. Then I get someone to read my paper and make corrections. If I happened to procrastinate I have someone who is very good at finding mistakes and have them go through my entire paper until it is halfway decent, then I add more detail until I feel it is good.

  29. To make sure I get assignments done on time I first write in on "Stickies" on my computer so that every time I open up my computer I see that I have something to do. If I am writing a big paper I work on it a little each night so that I don't have to do all of it on one night. I set goals to have certain parts done on certain days. Usually I have no problem with getting work done on time. I like to have it done early so that I can have a few more days to correct and make sure its the best it can be. My motivation to not procrastinate is often telling myself that if I work on it now and get it done I won't have to worry about it.

To make sure that I meet writing/assignment deadlines, I can set my own personal deadline to make sure that I get the assignment done on time to avoid procrastination. Before reaching the due date for assignments, I could do a little bit of the assignment each day so I don't have a huge assignment to complete the day before it's due. I do set steps up for assignments to make it easier. When I am given an assignment I try to complete a couple of days ahead of time to make sure that I did everything correctly and get it exactly how I want it to be. For me to avoid procrastination I can start assignments the day they are given to make sure that I get it done on time.

  31. Take my homework home and not try to get it all done in study hall the day before its due or the day that its due. Making sure that I do something with it everyday no just putting it off. I dont really set steps I let them all into place. Yes I try to get it done before its due just to have the few extra moments to check through everything.

I try to make myself do a little each night until its due, or if its due the next day I try to just sit down and get it done. If I need to have something done on time I try get done as much as I can early, then when procrastination gets the best of me most of it is done. Well since procrastination gets the best of me every time I should probably figure out something to do so I don’t have to rush to get it done last minute.

I don't like to procrastinate, but sometimes I do it anyway. So, I always write things down in my planner that I want to have done on certain days. Other times I just write notes to myself or make a mental note of what I want to get done. Usually I plan to have finished the project or paper ahead of time, so I have some breathing room or if something unexpected pops up. I don't always expect the unexpected, but I'm prepared if something unexpected does ever come along.

I sometimes tend to procrastinate when I have a reading or writing assignment due. I need to find motivation for myself to want to do the work. I also need to find time when I'm not so busy with sports and actually sit down and do my work, which is mostly at night. I can write my homework down each day to help me remember to do it. I usually start a project early, but don't finish until the last minute. I can use my planner that just sits in my bag or write down my assignments on Stickies so I always remember to get it done.

I could use time that I have to get started on assignments, even a little bit helps. I don't take much preparation before hand, just a little with prewriting, but I don't like to work unless pressured. I hardly get stuff done ahead of time, I just work like crazy the day before it is due.

I try to write important dates or deadlines in my iCal or make lists so I can look at what I need to get done. To make sure i meet writing deadlines, I set up a schedule to have each piece done in. THis helps make it less overwhelming, more clarified on what it's about, and proper grammer is done. For example, I will have a report due in a week, so the first day I brainstorm, two days I outline and pre write, then one day I rough draft, one day fix mistakes and add to rough draft, and last two days look over the edited piece to make sure I'm satisfied. So the last day I'm not stressing out.
